Dear Sir or Madam,

I live in a shared apartment with four other people in an apartment block. About three months ago the front door lock was replaced after being broken (open) ever since we moved in in October. It turned out that our landlord/ agency didn't have the correct keys and had to order them. They said it would take 6 months to get the keys. Now it has been almost 3 months and we only recently got one key to share between the five of us in the apartment.

As we all are either working or studying it happens almost everyday that someone has to wait outside the front door and hope that one of the neighbors will let us into the building. Especially at night this is a major problem.

My question is: Can we request a refund of the rent at least to some extend? What are our rights? The agency/landlord has not offered anything.

Thank you for your help!

Kind regards,

I recommend you to write a letter to the landlord in which you state that you need the keys within two weeks for example, as a lack of that you will not pay the full rent. Moreover you can ask for compensation for the previous months. If the landlord refuses or take no further action please contact me for more help.
