Legal Advice in case of Dispute about Invoice

Questioner

2.5 months ago I took my thicknesser (tool) to an 'acquaintance' who could repair it. We had verbally agreed that he could make it at his leisure and that it would cost +- 600 to 700,-. Seemed reasonable to me since I had bought the thicknesser for 1200,- and the market value is +- 2000,- euros. Now, 2.5 months later, it is ready and I receive an invoice for an amount of 2300,- including VAT. 3 x as much as verbally agreed! I assumed with good faith that the bill might be a bit more expensive since it took so long, but I really thought this was too much. He did not inform me in the meantime and that is where it goes wrong for me. I just sent him an email reminding him that we verbally agreed on 600 to 700 euros and I hope he confirms that. He will probably come up with 100 reasons why it has become more expensive, but can I hold him to our verbal agreement (which will now hopefully be confirmed in writing)? I don't like this at all but I can't let this happen to me.

The repairer has a duty to report if the costs increase enormously in the meantime. These have apparently been violated, because you do not have to pay for these costs. If you wish legal assistance, you may contact me directly by private message.
