Legal questions about tenancy law?

Questioner

In 11-2004 we rented a house from a housing association with 4 people, being mother, daughter with boyfriend and a house friend of the family. We had to be 4 people to be allowed to rent the house. We left behind 2 empty houses. The daughter went to live in Belgium with the boyfriend a few years later, but came back alone in 2013. We recently asked the housing association whether, as the mother who was the only one to sign the lease, she had to go to a nursing home or die/we could continue to live in the house. This request was rejected by WV, who stated that residents are not considered co-tenants. I find this very strange, they agreed with each of us at the time

No, this is correct. Under strict conditions, a 35-plusser who cares for a parent in the parental home can move up and apply for co-tenancy. However, there must really be sustainable informal care and even more requirements.
