Property boundary and veranda: What are your rights?

The back of our garden borders on that of our rear neighbours. There is no back entrance. Now these neighbors want to build a canopy on or against the property line, a kind of veranda. There is now a rickety fence with ivy growing over it. We do not want this veranda on the property line. How far back from the property line should they put it? And should we give them the opportunity to maintain the back? They would have to go through our house! And is it allowed for the rainwater drain to be located on the property boundary or hang over it?

In the back garden, quite a lot can be realised without a permit. Your neighbours may demand that a fence be placed on the joint property boundary or that it be replaced. Works may be placed on each side of the fence, provided that half of the thickness of the fence is used. The question is where the fence is placed.
