The other children can make a different choice. This alternative can be: unconditional acceptance or rejection. If one of the children accepts the inheritance with benefit of inventory, the estate must be settled jointly by all heirs (settling = assessing the assets and debts, paying the creditors, and then dividing the remainder), even if the others have not accepted the inheritance with benefit of inventory. This is a bit more complicated, but not too difficult.\r \nBefore you make a decision about acceptance, beneficial or unconditional, or rejection (or about dividing the estate in advance), discuss this as soon as possible with someone who is knowledgeable about this subject.\n\n If any of the children still owed the deceased a debt and thus now owed it to the estate, it should normally be repaid or possibly offset against their share of the inheritance.
