How do I get property back from my ex-partner's house?

I have broken up with my partner. I have sent him a registered letter with the items I want back. It concerns personal property (about 8 items) and he is being difficult about this. I still have a house key (I got this from him while the relationship was already over), but I am no longer registered. What are my rights and obligations in this?
