Payment arrears with DUO expired?
Questioner
I graduated in July 1996 and therefore fall under the old loan system. I started repaying from 1998. In 2006 I moved to Sweden. I properly reported a general change of address (address of parents-in-law) because we had a temporary residential address at the time. I also reported this temporary residential address to DUO. The collection orders (linked to a Dutch bank account with the address of parents-in-law) could not all be collected and in the meantime we moved again (and I forgot to report this). DUO now states that they have tracked me down and that I still have to pay outstanding payments from the period 2006-2011. My question: Are these claims still valid since they relate to a debt from 1996? The main thing is that I want to handle it properly and that I assumed that everything was correct since I never received a message before that I had payment arrears. I have also contacted DUO to request all correspondence (which I did not receive). Thanks in advance!Lawyer
The limitation period of claims can be interrupted. If you have received a decision (concerning possible repayment), it is important that you file an objection in time. A statutory term applies for this, which is fatal. If you would like to discuss, please feel free to contact me without obligation (www.boudewijnadvocatuur.nl). I also assist clients on a pro bono basis if they qualify for this.Neem de volgende stap
