Right to compensation for changes in working hours?

Questioner

I work in a consumer service. About 3.5 years ago, the organization decided to extend the opening hours and I work an evening shift once a week from 12:30 to 21:00. I also receive an evening allowance for this. In the meantime, I bought a house and had 2 children and I also arranged my childcare in such a way that I only have to take 4 hours of parental leave. My decisions and financial picture are based on this. Now my organization has decided to reduce the opening hours again so that we will work days from 8:30 to 17:00 again. This means that I have to hand in my evening allowance but also have to arrange 4 hours of extra childcare for my children. This has considerable financial consequences. To what extent should / can my employer accommodate me in this and what are my rights in this?

Lawyer

In principle, your employer has the freedom to organize his organization as he sees fit. In doing so, he must take your specific situation into account, especially because of children. It is not the case that the employer can be obliged to accommodate you in this, but it may be a good idea to come to a good and suitable solution, with or without (legal) support. You can of course contact me without obligation to see if I can be of any help to you in this. You can reach me via boksjuristen.nl. Good luck in any case.
