Alimony after 21st

My parents have been separated since I was 3 months old. I haven't been to my father since I was about 12 and we haven't had any contact either. In October I'll be 21 and I was wondering if he should continue to pay alimony? In September I'll start my bachelor's degree in criminology. Of course I could really use this money then, but I find it very unclear on the internet whether he should continue to pay this.

Indeed, the legal obligation to pay child support ends on the 21st birthday. However, as long as you are studying, your parents may still be liable for maintenance. The maintenance obligation then continues if you can demonstrate that you are unable to provide for yourself and are therefore still in need. Furthermore, the parents may require that you make sufficient efforts to complete your studies.
