Parental leave from self-employed to employed?

Questioner

I have been self-employed since 2016. My first child was born on 1 February 2023. If I become an employee in 2024, will I still be entitled to statutory parental leave?

It is possible to be entitled to parental leave if you become employed after the birth of your child. According to Dutch law, parental leave can usually be taken in the first 8 years after the birth of your child. So even if you only become employed later, you could be entitled to parental leave on that basis. The exact conditions can differ per employer and sector and can often be found in the collective labor agreement. It can also differ per situation whether and how many hours per week you can take parental leave. It is advisable to discuss your specific situation with your future employer and/or a legal advisor to determine what applies in your situation. -------------- Stichting Rechtswinkel.nl is a national organization with students and volunteers.
