Can I get a divorce lawyer if I have no income?

My wife has filed for divorce and hired a lawyer. There has already been a first hearing to make a provisional arrangement regarding the children, but now a definitive parenting plan has to be made and I am not sure whether I agree with everything and whether I am doing the right thing. At the moment I even think that I want custody of the children and that they will therefore come and live with me. When we decided to have children in our lives, we agreed that I would be there more for the children and I have adjusted my work accordingly and now she wants custody and I see them on Wednesdays and every other weekend. On the days that they are with her, the children stay at the after-school care on Mondays and Thursdays after school and on Tuesdays her parents look after them, while they could also be with me.
