Liability for your Partner's Debts

My boyfriend has a significant amount of debt, and it looks like he'll face garnishment or debt restructuring. These debts date back to before our relationship. Can creditors hold me partly liable for them? We don't live together (yet), but we plan to in the future. Can they then include my income in my boyfriend's income?
