Advice on Parental Leave and Taxes
Questioner
I have to report the number of parental leave hours for my tax return, and officially, you must have a parental leave declaration if the tax authorities request it. Now I can see that I was entitled to 408 hours of parental leave at the beginning of last year. However, I didn't use/book all of these hours due to long-term illness. I will have lost all these hours by the end of the year. I did not receive a full salary for these hours, but a 20% discount on my regular salary and a parental leave contribution (70% of the minimum wage) Which hours can I claim for the parental leave discount? All hours received in 2012 but not all used due to illness. Or can I only report the actual hours booked/taken? My employer indicated that he would not issue a parental leave declaration, and then I was notified that I would then have to declare the booked hours. I disagree. Then I'll receive neither salary for those hours nor a discount. What is correct?Questioner
Apparently, there's a overlap between parental leave and disability. Anyone who is ill during parental leave is not entitled to take these hours back (at a later date). This is only possible with your employer's cooperation if you have requested an interruption of your leave. This is only possible in exceptional circumstances. See the Work and Care Act for more information. I hope you can continue with this matter. If you have any further questions or comments, please feel free to ask a follow-up question.
