Help with reporting sick after giving birth | Free advice

Questioner

Good day, I had a difficult delivery. The baby was born 10 weeks premature, and I had many complications and surgeries, including a month in the hospital as a single mother. It was incredibly difficult because I had to recover myself, but also take care of a tiny baby. My manager went to the hospital and said that if things still aren't going well (and they aren't) you should report sick!!! I called today to report myself sick because I'm not doing well yet and I have proof from my gynecologist and GP, but the sick report is not accepted. She says I have to give up my days off because I've seen the company doctor and that I'm required to come to her office tomorrow for an appointment. I explained that it's difficult to go to the appointment tomorrow and then to the occupational health and safety department on Friday because I live so far away and I'm not physically able to do both at the same time on Friday, but she wants to see me before I see the company doctor! Am I obliged to go despite having so many physical complaints and even proof of them? Awaiting your reply I remain! Thank you very much.

Dear questioner, I assume that your maternity leave has ended and that you are subsequently incapacitated for work as a result of the pregnancy and delivery. You then rightly report yourself sick as a result of the birth and your employer can even apply for sickness benefit from the UWV (Employee Insurance Agency), which compensates the employer for wage costs. Your employer is not allowed to deduct vacation days in case of illness. Only if the occupational health physician determines that you can work fully or partially will the situation change. You then have the option to request an expert opinion (DO) from the Employee Insurance Agency (UWV). I understand you're seeing the company doctor on Friday, and that your physical condition will allow you to make it. However, you can't manage a meeting with your manager. You can request that your employer hold the meeting by phone or at your home, to facilitate your recovery. I hope I have helped you on your way and good luck. mr.
