Am I entitled to unemployment benefits when my contract expires?

Questioner

I have a one-year contract that expires in August. It probably won't be renewed (the company no longer considers me a good fit). I own a house with a mortgage and have always worked since 2007. Am I entitled to unemployment benefits, and how does this work exactly? Will this affect my mortgage and/or home? How does this work exactly?

Questioner

Failure to renew a one-year contract will not directly affect your mortgage or home purchase. If you've worked for the same employer since 2007, you are undoubtedly entitled to unemployment benefits. However, these are only 75% of your last earned salary for the first two months and 70% thereafter. You can apply for unemployment benefits through the Employee Insurance Agency (UWV). You can find more information on uwv.nl.
