Healthcare collective labor agreement: Holidays and compensation

Questioner

I work in healthcare, according to the Collective Labor Agreement for Disabled Care. If I work on a weekday public holiday, I receive 6.8 hours of compensation. I have a 34-hour per week contract. So far, this is correct (34: 5 = 6.8). If I work a shift of, say, 10 hours on a weekday public holiday, I only receive 6.8 hours of compensation. I believe my employer is then required to pay for the public holiday with a 60% bonus and then compensate me for 10 hours on a weekday off sometime later in the month. Do you know how this works? I've looked in the collective labor agreement but can't find it.

Questioner

I think you are right based on the collective labor agreement.

You will receive compensation for time off based on Article 6.4, paragraph 6, unless your employer uses an annual system, in which case a deduction will be applied in accordance with the first paragraph of this article. In addition to the compensation for time off, you will also receive an irregular hours allowance of 60% based on Article 7:10. By the way, this is not at all unusual because in other industries, working on public holidays also involves a day off and an additional compensation of often 50%.
