Cancelling your UPC subscription: Your rights and advice
Questioner
Dear reader, In March, I canceled my UPC subscription by phone, but apparently, this never happened. This week, I received a message (at my old address) stating that there was an outstanding balance. After calling, it turned out this wasn't possible due to an annual subscription, although it was possible at the time to cancel it in advance for the remaining x number of months. The letter arrived 9 days later, via the new resident of my old address. Unfortunately, this had to be paid within 7 days of the letter being sent, so the bailiff showed up today (at my old address). It's striking that I gave my parents' address as my postal address at the time, and the previous letters were never sent there. If this was indeed done by phone (as I was told) but not registered in UPC's system, who has the right to do so, the consumer or the provider? Incidentally, the bank account from which the direct debit was supposed to be debited was cancelled around the same time as the annual subscription expired, so all direct debits were declined. Kind regardsLawyer
Day, If you had an initial year contract, you cannot cancel it before the end of the contract period; after that, you can cancel it on a monthly basis (Van Dam law). The information you provided is irrelevant. Was the contract still ongoing, and was it the first one with that provider or a renewal?Take the next step
