Paying Board to Parents: What Are Your Duties?

Questioner

Parents are receiving social assistance/debt restructuring. Are you, as an adult (child/resident), obliged to pay board and lodging/contributions to your parents and/or the municipality?

Lawyer

If the parents are admitted to a WSNP programme, you will indeed have to pay a reasonable contribution to your parents for room and board, if you are able to do so. If you refuse this while your income allows it, the amount you could pay for board and lodging will still be included in your parents' income. The amount they receive as a result will be smaller. You essentially have the choice to either leave the parental home or start paying reasonable compensation.
