Ir/Madam, I am in an advanced stage of a job application procedure and have received a proposal for a written employment contract. I myself have indicated that I will only agree to work for the company if I agree to the proposed employment contract. However, I do not agree with it (contract duration, no trial period) and I also have doubts whether I really fit in with the company. Even though I have not signed anything yet and have not said yes wholeheartedly, the company probably thinks that I accept their offer. Can I still withdraw from the application? Probably (as you describe it). But why don't you just state that you want a trial period and that you want a different contract duration?
