Advice on job changes and dismissal risks

Questioner

My current position is going to be eliminated, I have been offered another position, but that is not my job. I currently have an administrative position and my new position would be goods receipt employee. Because they are going to change and merge departments in the company, I am redundant with my 20 hours to move up with my fellow colleagues who work full-time and who will continue to have an administrative position. What can I do? Can I refuse this offer and what could be the consequences??

I assume that the other function is not your job but can be fulfilled by you given your education and experience. In that case, you run the risk that if you are dismissed, you will not receive unemployment benefits because you refused suitable work. You also run the risk that you may be dismissed precisely because there is other suitable work that you do not want to do. The consequences of refusing can therefore be considerable and I therefore advise you to think carefully before you refuse this offer.
