Legal assistance with cars and fines

Good evening, I have the following problem. Some time ago I was asked by good friends of mine if I wanted to take a car from them in my name, they could not do this themselves because it was not possible due to debt restructuring. I agreed and signed for it but with the agreement that they would cover all costs, I was very trusting at the time and really thought that they would pay the road tax and any fines. It went well for a few months, until I received a fine for driving without insurance of 371 euros. In addition, there were still 2 outstanding road tax bills at that time. To keep the story short, nothing was paid by them during that time and that fine together with the outstanding road tax bills increased to more than 1800 euros. This showed that they had seriously neglected to pay their agreement or had not made payment agreements. Since there was a big chance that I would be taken hostage by the police for that fine, I asked someone to advance me the entire amount was paid. the problem is that now in October 2014 I have only received 50 euros in total, and I already sent the registered letter in May 2014. they have enough excuses and such... this month of October they have nothing left to pay me 50 while they said that earlier this week via whatss app. I do pay myself back every month now, but it is very hard. would it be useful to hire a lawyer for this?

Litigation against a party that is clearly unable and/or unwilling to pay is not very useful. From your question I gather that you have very likely lost the money. Perhaps you can still put pressure on the owner/possessor of the motor vehicle by letting him know that if he does not pay and you submit the claim to the trustee, the debt assistance will probably be terminated. The next problem is to get rid of the registration of the license plate. The fastest way is of course to transfer it to the name of the owner/possessor. He must be willing to cooperate.
