Questioner

I recently moved and had to quit my job because it would have been too far away. Now I applied 3 weeks ago at another branch of the same company. Here I was invited for an interview. Everything was fine and they knew I came from another branch, which was very convenient because I did not have to be trained. The next day she called me back with the good news that I had been accepted. The following week I went by to fill in my full details so they could draw up the contract. I even arranged my first day of work and took the work clothes home with me. Now they call again a week later to say that they are not hiring me after all, because they have to offer me a permanent contract in January and they don't want to do that. Am I entitled to benefits or another form of payment because I currently have no work/wage? I have stopped applying for jobs and cancelled something else because of this.

Lawyer

I advise you to contact a lawyer or employment attorney as soon as possible. I believe that the company has made you an offer and that you have accepted that offer. Therefore, an employment contract has been concluded. At this stage of the negotiations, your new employer is not free to withdraw now. You may be eligible for subsidized legal aid. You can contact one of the lawyers on this website, a legal aid clinic or law clinic in your area or Het Juridisch Loket (0900 8020) or: http://www.juridischloket.nl/Pages/default.asp
