Legal Advice for Real Estate in Suriname

Questioner

In 2010 I bought a plot of land in Suriname from an acquaintance here in the Netherlands. At least that's what I thought. I paid this acquaintance money for the plot here in the Netherlands and here in the Netherlands the acquaintance transferred the power of attorney to me at a notary. Now that I wanted to arrange a few things in Suriname it turns out that only the power of attorney is in my name and the inheritance right is in the name of the mother of the acquaintance who 'sold' me the plot. I paid a few thousand euros to this lady and the documents from the notary are in my possession. I have also filed a report with the police for fraud. What can I do now legally? The mother of the acquaintance in whose name the inheritance right is registered died years ago. And the acquaintance himself has moved to Belgium I no longer have her contact details. I did see that she has a Facebook account on which I asked her in a private message to pay back the money or to transfer the plot completely to my name since I paid for it I have of course received no response. What can I do now?? I have the documents that the notary in Rotterdam drew up, in which the acquaintance transfers the POWER OF ATTORNEY to me. That acquaintance lives in the Netherlands and the fraud also happened here. The notary in Suriname told me that he can do nothing as long as the INHERITANCE LAW is not in my name. I also have the bank statement on which the payment to the acquaintance for the plot is stated with her name and account number. What do I have to do to qualify for a lawyer who can assist me with this? Thank you in advance

You can ask the question again and again, but I'm afraid the answer will always be the same. Without the file, a sensible answer is impossible. I advise you to present the case to a lawyer to see if and what can be done about it. You may be eligible for subsidized legal aid. You can contact one of the lawyers on this website, a legal aid clinic or law clinic in your area or Het Juridisch Loket (0900 8020) or: http://www.juridischloket.nl/Pages/default.asp
