Sleeping hours after working overtime in healthcare
Questioner
How many 'sleep-in hours' am I entitled to after working overtime? I work in a hospital and I have an on-call shift twice a month. This means that I work from 16:00 to 24:00. I often have to work overtime until 2:30. Now the head of the department says that we are entitled to 9 hours of sleep. This means that we can sleep from 3:00 (2:30 + 30 minutes travel time) to 12:00 and then have to work again at 13:30. Employees who have worked an on-call shift on their first day and have to work again the next day at 1:30 PM often arrive at work very tired. (One never sleeps at 3:00 and when one sleeps until 12:00 one has an hour to do daily things like shopping, eating, cooking, showering, etc.) My question is therefore, is it true that one is entitled to 9 'sleep-in hours' when there are so few hours between the two shifts? I have already read the collective labor agreement for hospitals, but I could not find anything about this subject.Lawyer
Minimum rest after a night shift ending after 2:00 am is normally 14 hours 1 x per 7 x 24 hours this may be shortened to 8 hours. So if it is 2 times per month then the rest of 9 hours is allowed.Take the next step
