Help with Cohabitation and Benefits
Questioner
Hello, My boyfriend and I would like to move in together. We both receive a Wajong benefit and rent subsidy. According to the internet, nothing will change in our benefits if we move in together. How exactly does the rent subsidy work? The housing association allows my boyfriend to live with us for two years before he becomes a co-tenant. What exactly do I have to report and to which agencies? And what happens if the UWV were to change the rules, and as a result, for example, one of our benefits would be cancelled (meaning we would no longer be able to pay the monthly costs)? Do we have any rights in this regard? Yours sincerely.Lawyer
In principle, cohabitation has no influence on a Wajong benefit, not even after 1 January 2015. There is a saying that goes 'if the sky falls, we will all have a blue hat', what awaits us in the future and whether or not there will be a transitional situation for the Wajong, no one knows yet. Rent allowance is provided by the tax authorities and depends on your joint income. You can find all the details here: http://www.taxdienst.nl/wps/wcm/connect/bldcontentnl/ tax service/prive/toeslagen/huurtoeslag/huurtoeslag_2015/ After two years of living together, you must of course report this to the landlord and your partner must register in the Municipal Personal Records Database (municipality), he is in principle entitled to become a co-tenant. Until then he is staying with you as it is called, without right or title. http://www.rijksoverheid.nl/onderwerpen/personal data/basisregistration-persons-brpTake the next step
