Rent Arrears and Eviction: What to Do?
Questioner
I have a 3-month rent arrears... now I have asked the bailiff =- 6 weeks ago for a payment arrangement for 2 months of arrears, he was not interested because it was already with the judge, I could only avoid further costs by paying everything before the verdict date. Now the verdict has been set for eviction on August 13th...I have been abroad for the past 2 years and could not appear on the date of the verdict and now I want to pay, but am I too late now, I found the letter of August 22nd on my mat yesterday (September 1st) when I returned to my home after 2 years. I was doing house sitting which is a legal way of renting. the backlog increased because I had not had a job in Curacao since May. now I have a very good job in prospect, but it doesn't start until mid-October. I can now pay 1200 euros. the total amount is +_3500 euros. what should i do? I have not been a defaulter or a bad tenant so far. ps deportation is scheduled for September 5th. Tomorrow I'm going to the bailiff!Lawyer
Unfortunately for you, all circumstances (whatever they may be) on your side are not relevant to a landlord. You can therefore hardly prevent eviction, at most by paying everything in advance. But a landlord does not have to accept that either. I also do not consider summary proceedings useful and will also cost you a lot of money that you could better invest in repayments. I am sorry that I do not have better news.Questioner
