Employment law: Employer cannot be required to make up sick hours
Questioner
Can an employer force you if you work part-time to work your sick hours on other days. For example, you work according to contract on Mon, Tue and Wed. You report better on Wednesday, can an employer then require you to work that week on Wed, Thu and Fri to still get your hours?Lawyer
Your employer is legally obliged to pay for the hours not worked due to incapacity for work. You do not have to make up for these hours unpaid. You can reject a request from your employer to work extra - paid - if that does not suit you. I would advise you to discuss this matter again with your employer and, if you cannot reach an agreement, to inform him in writing (registered letter with acknowledgement of receipt) that you do not agree with his request.Take the next step
