Gym Subscription: Your Rights and Advice

I had taken out a membership at a gym, now I had to sign a new contract in January because of a number of changes, I did not do this because I wanted to get rid of the membership anyway. Signing this contract was necessary to continue the monthly collection. My question now is, is the old contract still valid? Are they allowed to just collect money every month even though I have not signed the new contract?
