Legal Advice on Work and Benefits

Questioner

I will start working full-time on June 1st, then I will no longer receive benefits. Am I obliged to give the municipality a copy of my employment contract and a copy of my pay slip?

Lawyer

The municipality wants to know from when you have a job. After all, your right to social assistance ends on that date. The municipality may also demand that you demonstrate that you have a job only since 1 June 2015 (and not already since 1 April, for example). This can be done, for example, by means of a copy of the employment contract (but also in another way, for example a statement from the employer or only the first and last pages). The municipality does not have the right to a copy of the pay slip, in addition to the copy of the employment contract. After all, that is a bit redundant. If the pay slip shows the date of commencement of the employment contract, you can submit a copy of it instead of the employment contract.
