Legal Advice Parking Permit Amsterdam

Questioner

My sister has lived in Amsterdam East for 13 years. This neighborhood is a bad neighborhood but it is on the rise, and many students now live there. My sister has had a car for 2 years and the rest of the neighborhood hardly has one! Now the twist, my sister has applied for a parking permit but it has not been granted due to a freeze on applications. The waiting times for a permit are currently 5 years. but the whole neighborhood is full of empty parking spaces because the people in this neighborhood don't own a car. Now she has to pay a lot of money every day, 3 euros per hour, or drive to places where there are still free zones, which is almost zero in Amsterdam. can you help us? Ps she has a child with asthma and is 30 percent disabled herself. fr gr

It is possible that the data the municipality uses when refusing or issuing parking permits is incorrect. I think it is therefore wise to record your findings (enough parking spaces in the area) with photos and in writing: count the number of (empty) parking spaces at different times (during the day at 15:30 and in the evening at 19:30) within a radius of 250 meters around your home. Also record this on a drawing of your living environment. Also do this on different days (workdays and weekends) over a period of about three weeks. With this you have done a parking study. Go to the municipality with this data and apply for a new permit. Good luck!
