Rights when emigrating to New Zealand

Questioner

I am soon to emigrate to New Zealand with my partner and son. My partner is from there, my son and I were born here. Suppose we split up in New Zealand, what are my rights?

Lawyer

You are Dutch and so is your son. So according to Dutch law you are and remain the mother with authority. Nothing essential changes then.

Questioner

Thanks for your answer. I have another question. Is an extract from the birth register sufficient proof to prove in New Zealand that he is my son? He carries his father's name and has his own passport (NL) (in New Zealand he gets a NZ passport)

Lawyer

That is New Zealand law. I have no knowledge of that.

Questioner

Thank you!
