Tenancy law: What are your rights as a tenant?
Questioner
I have been renting a house from a private owner since June 2013. The rent was confirmed by contract via an estate agent until May 2017. The house was taken off the market before I moved in. Now I am getting a message for the second time that viewers are coming by with the estate agent while the owner keeps insisting that the house is not for sale. I once heard somewhere that you have rights as a tenant and that the house may not be for sale during the rental agreement. Is this correct?Lawyer
If nothing is stipulated in the lease agreement when selling the property, the landlord may normally sell the property but you will enjoy rental protection and your lease will therefore continue. Regarding viewings by viewers, you do not have to accept this if this is not stipulated in the contract. For more information, please feel free to contact me.Take the next step
