Legal Advice on Your Book and LinkedIn

Questioner

I am writing a book about an ex-employer. Incidentally, without naming anyone (neither the company itself nor the real names of my ex-colleagues). However, I will not release it under a pseudonym, but under my own name. A bit of a magician Googles my name and then finds out via LinkedIn who my ex-employer was. My question now is: can I leave that ex-employer on LinkedIn? Or will I get a lawsuit because of that book? Thank you in advance for your response,

The truth may be written. No one can stop you from doing so. See in this context for example the books about Bram M., ABNAmro, Heineken etc. You may not tell untruths or unnecessarily denigrate your ex-employer/ex-colleagues. Whether you run a risk will therefore depend on the content of your book. On the one hand, removing your ex-employer from LinkedIn will leave a gap in your resume, but on the other hand, it will not help you if that employer can identify with your book and demonstrate that the content is incorrect or unnecessarily offensive. Finally, someone will only take action if your book is a success. Otherwise, the chance of negative publicity through a possible lawsuit is greater than through publishing your book.
