Dual nationality for children in the Netherlands?
Questioner
My 8 year old son was born in Brazil and lives in the Netherlands and has a dual passport, both Brazilian and Dutch. The father is Dutch, the mother Brazilian; both also living in the Netherlands. Is dual nationality for my son allowed according to Dutch law and is there an age at which he will have to choose?Lawyer
It is possible to have 2 nationalities here in the Netherlands. As I understand from your story, your child has Brazilian nationality because his place of birth and your child has Dutch nationality because of his father. In this case you don't have any problem now, it is allowed. I don't expect any problems in the future. It is true that in the Dutch civil register only the Dutch nationality is registered, not the Brazilian. This is to clarify your legal position. I hope I have informed you sufficiently. If you have any questions, please let me know.
