Questioner

We have been registered in the municipality of Tilburg since 2011 as a postal address at our daughter's address. This is due to our annual longer period due to travel, including wintering in southern Spain for approximately 6 or 7 months. the remaining months we stay in our chalet in the Netherlands where we can recreate 365 days a year, because our daughter has also been a widow for 4 years with 3 growing children, we help her during these remaining months with her daily household/garden work. Now in August 2015 we receive a letter from the municipality of Tilburg in which we have to indicate a change of residential address as well as a change of postal address, and we have to state our current situation. What is this? Do we have to comply with this? What is the reason of the municipality? According to the municipality it concerns a 4-yearly inspection?

Postal addresses are intended for temporary situations. If you are staying away from the Netherlands for longer than 8 months (this does not have to be a continuous period) there is another register where you must register; you have then actually emigrated. Inform yourself well about all the consequences, also for example for the right to AOW and health insurance and allowance before you inform the municipality.
