Questioner

Hello, I recently heard through the grapevine that I had been convicted in absentia in a case from 2011. I have been living abroad since 2011 and had never received any notice that there was a lawsuit against me. It's been a few years now and my question is what I can do about this. For example. Best actions to tackle this. I want to go on holiday to NL, but don't want to get into trouble because of this. Thanks in advance for your help/interest. Kind regards E.

Lawyer

It is important to know when exactly you were told that you were convicted in absentia. From that date, a period of 14 days applies to appeal the verdict. It is advisable to have a lawyer assist you in that case.

Questioner

Thank you for your response. It is all unofficial and I have not received any official notification / letter or anything like that. I was allowed to hear all this last weekend. What I would like to know is how I can find out if this is true and what it would mean when re-entering the Netherlands as the situation is now (if this is all true)
