Do you rent social housing? Buying a house as an investment
Questioner
Can you, as a tenant of social housing, buy a house elsewhere as an investment, without living there yourself? For example, to rent out or as a B&B or via Airbnb?Lawyer
That is possible. If it is indeed an investment (e.g. investment property) and you meet the conditions of the lender, then this should not be a problem.Lawyer
It may be technically possible, but I do wonder about the following. If you have enough money to buy a house, then I think the need to live in social housing disappears. It may be a matter of time before the housing association - if you withhold this kind of information from them - finds out and you terminate the lease. Then someone else, who is not blessed with such capital, can move into the rental property.Take the next step
