Legal questions about employment contracts

Questioner

I work in retail and have a permanent contract for 24 hours a week. My question is what is the minimum number of hours you are allowed to work in a day.

Lawyer

There is no minimum, but we do have a maximum. The maximum depends on the Agreement and the Collective Labor Agreement. However, if you have a contract for a number of hours, the employer must ensure that he has work for that number of hours. If he does not have this, he must compensate for these hours. And then you as an employee must inform the employer in writing that you want to work more hours, according to the ratio of your agreement. If the employer cannot do this, he will simply have to pay you for the hours as agreed. You can also indicate in the letter that you do not agree if he wants to offset the hours with hours, vacation days/money, etc. In that case, he is not allowed to offset this. After all, it is also an employer's risk that there is insufficient work. If you would like further help and/or advice, please feel free to contact me.

Questioner

I work according to a fixed schedule and one day I am scheduled for an hour and a half. My personal circumstances have changed in such a way that once every two weeks I have more than an hour of travel time for an hour and a half of work. So I would like to get rid of it. I have brought it up with my employer but they say they cannot help me. So that is why I would like to know what my rights are in this.
