Help with cancelling your gym membership

Questioner

I have a one-year subscription to a gym. Now, due to defamation, I no longer see an option to work out there. I have contacted the gym several times, which is always ignored. I once received 1 response: 'Dear, Too bad you didn't come and tell us this in person! We have also done some research ourselves, again we can only cancel a subscription if there is direct proof of what you say, (a police report with a short statement). You are already drawing conclusions that are not well-founded, and we find it scandalous to communicate in this way about something so drastic that you are going to experience. In order to cancel your subscription immediately, we require indirect proof, otherwise your subscription will run until 20-08-2016. I don't think they're allowed to ask for this at all?

If you have taken out an annual subscription, you must also comply with it. The gym can decide for itself whether interim cancellation is permitted and can request proof from you. If it is not a problem to provide proof, I advise you to do so in order to cancel the subscription. For further assistance, you can also contact me directly and free of charge.
