Questioner

My son has an ABN-AMRO bank card on which (in addition to his surname) his initials are not stated, but his nickname. He wanted to sign a phone contract, but was told that his bank card did not match his ID card, which did have his initials on it. Also, the €0.01 he transferred was transferred to the name of ...---- and now he cannot sign the contract. Now it seems to be a serious mistake by the bank that he has a card with only his full name and apparently this falls under the heading of fraud and he can qualify for compensation. He wants to know if that is the case and how high that compensation can be.

What shows that the bank made a serious mistake? And what shows that this falls under the heading of fraud? It means nothing to me, let alone compensation. Compensation is only possible if your son suffered damage. I don't read that back. That it is annoying is beyond dispute, but fraud and compensation are the other side of the spectrum. Has your son contacted the bank for a replacement bank card? Let him explain the story and I think he can still take out a subscription next week, with his new bank card.
