Working hours in six days: what are your rights?
Questioner
can my employer make me work 40 hours in six days or is the sixth day overtime? We don't have a collective labor agreement.Lawyer
Of course, this depends on the sector you work in. The rules of the Working Hours Act apply here. An employee is not allowed to work the maximum number of hours every week. Over a longer period, the working hours look like this: • per week every 4 weeks: an average of 55 hours per week over a period of four weeks; in a collective arrangement (for example, collective labor agreement) different agreements may have been made about this. But an employee may never work more than 60 hours work per week. • per week per 16 weeks: an average of 48 hours per week in a period of 16 weeks. The employee and employer make make agreements together about how the employee will fill in the working hours per day and per week.Questioner
