Legal Advice in case of Default Conviction in Spain
Questioner
I had a fight with an Englishman in Spain last year. And then the police were called and we both gave a statement. After that I received a summons from the court in Alicante, but because I was back in the Netherlands, I did not attend that hearing. How do I find out if I have been convicted in absentia and what the possible sentence is?Lawyer
Dear, It is possible that you have already been convicted in absentia (i.e. in your absence). You could request this from the local authorities. You can also have a lawyer do this for you, but I will need more information. If you have been convicted in absentia, there are still numerous options to appeal against the ruling. I hope this information is useful to you. If you want to know more, you can contact me, but I will need some information.Take the next step
