Water Damage and Insurance: What to Do?
Questioner
I have been living in a furnished apartment for 2 months. Now there is water damage to the floor in the kitchen/living room caused by rust in the shower tray, in the adjacent bathroom (which is neat in itself but from the 70s). The leak was difficult to discover because the laminate in the kitchen/living room started to bubble. The floor is damaged to such an extent that it has to be completely removed and replaced. Under which insurance does this fall? The loss adjuster of the landlord's insurer indicated that the floor is not covered by the building insurance. But can the damage be reimbursed from my home contents insurance (which is only 2 weeks old)? I assume that my insurer also wants to determine the value of the floor, but of course I have no proof of purchase, because it is not my floor. Under which insurance does this fall now??Lawyer
The damage will have to be compensated from the contents insurance. If the damage was caused by others, you can report this to your contents insurance. You can also report your own damage here. Usually the landlord has his own contents insurance, since the property is rented out furnished and the floor is his. He can then claim it from his own insurance. The expert will then make an estimate of the repair costs if there are no more receipts. For further assistance or questions, you can contact me directly.Take the next step
