Legal assistance with mortgage and property tax after divorce

Questioner

My ex and I have not yet sold our home. The mortgage is in both names and we agreed during the divorce that I would stay in the house until it was sold. So I pay all the costs such as mortgage etc. alone. We have received a tax assessment, the OZB and I have asked my ex to pay half of this. He does not want that because he thinks that because I live there he should pay everything himself and we had agreed that I would pay the costs. But am I within my rights to expect him to pay half because legally he is co-owner?

Lawyer

I always find the best option, if finances permit, to salt everything and settle with the other party after the sale of the house. If this is not financially feasible, you are still stuck with the agreement that you will continue to pay all charges until the house is sold. More specifically, this now concerns the OZB assessment. Paying this also falls under this agreement.
