Cooking smells and neighbours: What is allowed and possible?
Questioner
Where can I place my cooking air exhaust? We have an underground drainage system for the hob. Now it has to come out above ground again. The grate comes out in the neighbours garden at approx. 30 cm above ground (in our own wall). The neighbours only see a grate. Is that allowed because of the cooking smell?Lawyer
You have an 'underground' right of way because the drain pipe is laid underground. The fact that the grate is present in the garden of the neighbours - on your wall -, makes it the property of the neighbours. As long as the neighbours are not bothered by your cooking skills such as smoke, stench, etcetera... then there is no problem at all. If this does cause problems later on, then you are responsible for solving this nuisance. In such a case, try to discuss the dispute with the neighbours over a cup of coffee.Take the next step
