Legal Advice Rental Costs | Free Consultation

Questioner

A year and a half ago I rented an apartment, where I no longer live. At the time I paid more than €400 in administration costs (incl. VAT) which the rental agent only describes as a one-time administration cost for the tenant, which would be used for the initial and final inspection, among other things. I found the property myself on the internet, after which I responded and scheduled a viewing. After this I signed a contract and an initial inspection and later a final inspection took place when I moved again. The rental agent was my contact person during the rental period, I had no contact with the landlord himself. I read that such administrative costs may only be charged if they are 'reasonable', but to what extent is an amount of more than €400 reasonable for something like this? Are these costs unjustified and can I therefore claim them back?
