Quote vs. Quotation: What's the Difference?

Questioner

What exactly is the difference between a quote and a price quote? I see different stories online and would really like to know. When would you send a customer a quote, and when a price quote? Are these two separate situations? Or is the price quote just one part of a quote? Or is a price quote a special form of quote? What are the exact definitions of the two?

Lawyer

Linguistically, the difference is probably that a quote is more extensive than a price quote. The latter does not have to include more than an amount. Legally, in both cases there is an offer, which, if accepted, leads to an agreement (except for reservations in the offer). Given the legal consequences, it is wise to make your offers in full or to include in a limited offer that additional conditions (may) apply.
