Lawyer advice health insurance: Your rights in case of cancellation

Questioner

For personal reasons, I have incurred a premium arrears on a health insurance (supplementary package) of 4 months. After I approached myself for a payment arrangement, I was told that they wanted to cancel me, the only way to prevent this was to pay 2 months at once by 1 November at the latest. Due to a malfunction at the bank and internet, I was able to make the payment on 2 November. So 1 day too late. Now they have canceled me. In the meantime, I have paid all the premium arrears and I am still not reinsured. Now my question is, can a health insurance company stop the entire insurance? I thought that in the Netherlands everyone is legally insured on a basic basis and that if there is a premium arrears of 6 months or more, it is collected by ZN. How does this work now?

Cancellation of the entire health insurance by the insurer is not simply permitted. This is possible for the supplementary insurance. If you have a backlog of 4 months, you can be transferred to the Healthcare Institute after an announcement after 6 months, which will then collect the health insurance premium. It appears that your health insurer is acting unlawfully by cancelling your policy. You can send a complaint about this. If you cannot resolve it together, you can contact me directly via a private message.
