Theft at work: What now?
Questioner
I have committed theft in the store where I worked. It was a cash register theft I embezzled money by charging return slips. I regret this so much and my employer is aware of it. Now he has only said on the phone that I have been suspended with immediate effect and that an investigation has been started. What is the punishment that I can expect. This feeling is really eating me up and I am open to paying back the amount in full. I feel so guilty and it is better to hire a lawyer now.Lawyer
Theft in employment (or better: embezzlement) is punishable by a fine and/or community service (if this is the first time). You may also be dismissed. If a report is filed, you will be considered a suspect. It is then important to engage a lawyer as soon as possible, who can make a difference from the start of the case. There may also be room for the lawyer to consult with your employer.Take the next step
