Legal Assistance with Car Purchase and Problems

Questioner

Bought a car for 800,- Without a purchase contract, The day after purchase the engine ran hot. Contacted the seller and he told us to top up the coolant, we did this and the car ran fine again for 2 days until we were stuck again with an overheated engine. Called ANWB, car was towed and the cylinder head gasket was blown. A repair of 500,- called the seller who said he knew nothing about it and wanted to compensate 100,-. Can I demand more from the seller?

Lawyer

Considering the cheap car and the fact that there is no purchase contract in which the seller gives you a small compensation, I think that the seller has accommodated you reasonably in this case and it will be difficult to demand more. After all, as a buyer you have a duty of investigation that goes far with relatively cheap cars. The mutual agreements that would have been made are also difficult for you to prove.
